The Acute Visiting Service (AVS) is available for patients registered with GP surgeries that come within the Blackburn with Darwen and East Lancashire localities.
GPs and their clinical teams can refer patients who require urgent primary care, who might otherwise need to be conveyed to hospital, into to the AVS for a home visit.
The AVS service operates daily from 8am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays
The aim of the service is to reduce inappropriate hospital admissions and enable patients to be cared for at home. It also reduces the need for GPs to leave their practice, allowing them to focus on other priorities within the surgery.
